Mary Poppins & growing home decor, at-home parents & drop-in friendships, symbolic flames & apple trees, Comer & the conversion of public intellectuals
Thanks for sharing the Mary Poppins essay, it expresses perfectly what I was fumbling towards in my comment on Week 40! I am especially glad that you shared it because I was wondering about expanding my comments on Mary Poppins and feminism into an essay and I am very relieved that now I don’t have to because that essay already exists.
Although I steer clear of most candles in our home, this is the time of year I bring out a strand or two of tiny white lights for my office space so that as the days get shorter and darker and I'm still working, it feels a little more magical and a little less dreary.
I just stumbled over this and wanted to say thanks for putting it together. It’s an incredible breadth of interesting, and rich pieces. Looking forward to receiving more of these
Thanks for highlighting Autumn Kern’s work. I recognize I’m not her target audience lol, but she’s given me good tools to think about building my own personal library, always enjoy her literature recommendations, and she (alongside others) have challenged me to think more deeply about how to engage with this age of The Machine.
Yes, I remember you mentioning a while back you appreciated her work. Glad she has some non-target-audience listeners! Some of the best things are the universally appealing ones, I've found.
It is lovely. She is such a wise lady for the things she discusses even at the beginning of her podcast, back when she was like 22 or something. haha They are cozy conversations. I cherished them in the lead up to our third baby.

As always, here to serve :) Thanks for even bringing it up, as I was about to dismiss the movie as silly!!
It was so wild to see Leah Libresco Seargent share my comment about our open invite dinners!
Here's our story and encouragement to everyone to try experiments in hosting:

Looking forward to reading your piece on hospitality!
Yes, I've had it saved for a while because I think you've linked to it before somewhere! haha Thanks for sharing it again.

Those strings of tiny lights somehow do so much for the spirit.
In the words of Kathleen Kelly… the world can be chaotic and scary, but “meanwhile, I’m putting up more twinkle lights.” :)
Chai layer cake! What a fantastic idea!!
'Twas a good choice. Sometime you just wanna mix it up!
