So many good articles here! I especially loved the essay on "How to Write Theology". I often think of how the Orthodox say that their liturgy is their theology. The hymns in the Divine Liturgy are rich with explicit theological teaching, but they're also full of beauty.
And thank you for introducing me to a new artist. These paintings are lovely!
Lately, I've loved finding a new artist (painter) every week. There's so much beautiful work out there.
Love that you mention that about the Orthodox faith - I started reading For The Life Of The World a while back, and already I see how much theology is wrapped in beauty, and experienced in the liturgy.
Glad to hear it you've enjoyed them! I had been wanting to steer the images in a less personal direction, and it's a win-win to seek out paintings to share.
I've been searching public domain platforms for different key words or time periods, etc, and trying to find artists with multiple pieces I enjoy. There's not a great system to speak of, but I realized I should keep a running list of artsists I've seen others share, ones I've come across, etc to draw from in the future. For this next week, it's a Texan painter I remember being so struck by, being known for his depictions of bluebonnet fields and other Texan landscapes. Brings me back. :)
She fills a needed gap for basic, for sure! I appreciate how she's always reminding people that whatever she has to offer is meant to bring us back into our homes/families and especially our local church communities.
I so glad I discovered your Substack, Haley. Interesting choices and intriguing observations of various books. You have invited me into literature that know nothing about but ought to. Thanks.
Thanks for the shout out!

I always love the articles but lately the art has also been so striking! How do you find your artists and their works?

Thank you for the mention and for reading good things — I’ve gleaned a lot from authors you recommend
Thanks for introducing me to Masonheimer! So encouraging to find more women diving into theology in addition to the token yearly tea;)
